About me

I’m Jess Yasuda. I’m a queer marriage celebrant based in Tasmania / Lutrawita.

Whether you are after a short, sweet ceremony with two guests or a big fabulous and fun celebration with 200 guests, I’m your girl.

I’m a 40 year old proud lesbian and I love writing and story-telling. I promise you a beautiful, heartfelt ceremony that people will remember for years to come.

When I’m not marrying gorgeous couples, I love watching Netflix and drinking red wine on the couch, or hopping into bed with a great novel and fresh sheets. My partner Lauren and I love walks on the beach and cuddling our cats.

We can get married anywhere - the beach, your living room, a winery or historic farm, or the pub. Whatever your ceremony looks like, it should be a reflection of what makes YOUR heart happy. Invite your extended family right down to your second cousins, or just have two witnesses.

Legals Only

(basically a registry wedding)

No ceremony, no fanfare.  We meet somewhere, get married and sign the paperwork in under 15 minutes. We can do it over the kitchen table, or in the park. Very simple, still sweet. I can even provide the witnesses if you need.

Includes an online meeting to get the legal paperwork done and then your legal wedding with me.

This service is not available for travel outside the general Hobart area.

You can do personalised vows and rings if you wish.

$550 inc GST (witnesses extra $50 each)

Monday-Thursday within 15 minutes of Hobart CBD - $450 including GST

Short and Sweet

(ceremony under 20 minutes, no rehearsal)

After a simple ceremony?  If you don't need your entire love story told to your guests then this is my most popular wedding.

Any venue, any number of guests. The ceremony goes for under 20 minutes.

We include the important bits that matter to you - a personalised script that we can edit to make yours - personalised vows, rings, etc all included.

We can include rituals like ring warming, a sand ceremony or candle lighting. I will give you access to my library of poems and readings.

I can bring my Bose PA system and Sennheiser microphone - which can play your music.

What this doesn’t include, compared to the Full Love Story, is a lengthy script or a rehearsal. If you would love me to turn your story into a beautiful bespoke story to tell at your wedding, and if you’d like a longer ceremony than 20 minutes and a rehearsal then the Full Love Story is for you.

Travel fees may apply if you are more than 50km from Hobart.

The Full Love Story

(your love turned into a story - and delivered like a fairytale)

This is everything in the Short and Sweet package - plus more.  It's unlimited, really. You and your partner become my VIPs and I'll ensure your day is absolutely top tier.

I will write a gorgeous story about the two of you, guaranteed to prompt a giggle AND a tear from your guests. I’ll stay as long as you need, and be there for a rehearsal when required. We can include as many rituals, cultural considerations and readings as you wish. The ceremony can go for as long as you wish.

Includes unlimited contact with me, unlimited edits to your script and lots of chat about planning a perfect ceremony.

The main difference between this and the Short and Sweet package is this includes a longer, more personalised story about your love, a rehearsal, and unlimited time for the ceremony.

You can even choose what I wear.

Funerals

I also am an experienced funeral celebrant and can help you say goodbye to your loved one, at a funeral home, chapel, pub, beach, farm or a river. I find it deeply rewarding to tell the story of your special person. I will not read off a page, and I’m experienced with complicated family dynamics. Your time with me is unlimited.

Why me?

There are a lot of celebrants out there….

But I’m a writer too. I want to hear your love stories. I love to find out what is that makes your connection special, why you picked each other and who proposed and when. I will spend hours on your script to really capture the story, and then I’ll tell it with warmth and levity in front of your loved ones.

I believe marriage doesn’t have to be about tradition or religion... It’s about love, about celebrating the joy of being in love and building a life together. It’s about making a promise to each other that you’re in it for the long haul, and you’re each other’s person.

Also - I’m really easy to chat to, I won’t read off a page, and I’m good with people. I can talk to your inappropriate Uncle Steve and I’ll make sure your nan finds her seat.

I ran my own business for 10 years before this so I’m organised, not easily exhausted, and above all, I set extremely high standards for myself.

Whether we’re doing something small and intimate, or throwing the party of the century, it will be my privilege to marry you.
